International Nurses Day

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER MESSAGE TO ST JOSEPH MERCH HOSPITAL NURSES ON THE OBSERVANCE OF INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY

The Board of Directors and Executive of the SJMH wish to extend a special thank you to all the nursing professionals everywhere and more particularly to you, our own Mercy Nurses here at SJMH.
This year’s observance is done under the theme-‘Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health’. In support of this theme Dr. Pamela Cipriano, President of the International Council of Nursing said: “Nurses have given their all in the fight against Covid-19, Ebola, in disaster areas and in war zones….”This statement is on point as it summarises the effort that has been expended over the past year by all in the profession and the need for strong institutional support.
The reality now is that the provision of quality healthcare has to be done in an environment of under-staffing and heavy workloads occasioned by the disruption of routine training of new entrants and attrition of professionals caused by the pandemic. It is, therefore, a priority to focus on workplace safety, protect our nurses and safeguard their physical and mental health. We at SJMH are committed to ensuring that our nurses have the best possible environment to practice their profession. Together we will surmount the challenges and continue to fulfill the requirements of our mission. “Committed to providing quality medical care services to all with a spirit of compassion, commitment, and professionalism”.
The emerging challenges inherent in providing quality nursing care will continue to test your mettle. Be assured, however, that you shall continue to receive the support required to function effectively. Dana Basem of the Qatar Cancer Society recently said, “Being a nurse means to hold all your own tears and start drawing smiles on people’s faces. You have been doing that over the past year. We urge that as a Mercy Nurse, you continue to take the lead in this regard as you are known to do.
The Sisters of Mercy Sponsoring Council, Board, and Executive of this hospital are fully in support of you. Continue being that Voice to lead- We shall support the Vision for Future Healthcare.
