Dear Pharmacists and by extension, healthcare professionals who practice in pharmacy – the field of health sciences focusing on safe and effective medication use.
The Board of Directors, Executives and staff of St Joseph Mercy Hospital wish to congratulate our Pharmacy team on the observance of Commonwealth Pharmacists week
The role of the pharmacist has always been embraced from ancient times as an essential profession in health care.In the context of the wider British Commonwealth and Guyana in particular, maintaining healthy populations is a top priority. Pharmacists therefore are in a unique position to be gatekeepers for quality medicine. The gatekeeper role is essential to prevent uncaring business enterprises from passing on counterfeit or falsely labeled medicines to us in the developing world.
The environment of the pandemic has posed unique challenges for the medicine supply chain worldwide and Guyana like other developing countries is particularly affected. It is therefore critical that innovative measures be adopted to guarantee acceptable results.
At SJMH, we will provide the encouragement and support for our Pharmacists to develop their clinical skills to better offer expertise to the medicines use process that would benefit the patient experience.
As Commonwealth pharmacy Week is observed, commit to being good stewards in the medicine supply chain.
Yours sincerely
Col (rtd) Enoch W Gaskin, MSM
