For the very first time in Guyana, a brain tumor is being removed using the Nexus Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator(CUSA). Done at the St Joseph Mercy Hospital by NeuroSpine Services Inc and loaned from Medical Visions of Trinidad.
Ultrasonic aspiration (UA) devices are commonly used for resecting intracranial tumors, as they allow for internal debulking of large tumors, hereby avoiding damage to adjacent brain tissue during the dissection.
