Thank you Catholic Standard for giving us at St Joseph Mercy Hospital the opportunity to let the Catholic Community know what we are doing at the hospital and our other Mission services.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to His Lordship Bishop Francis and a select group of concerned Donors, who gave us the opportunity to set up a COVID 19 Testing and Isolation Centre which is an Annex of the hospital located at St Paul’s Retreat Centre, Vryheids Lust.
2020, heralded the year of our 75th Anniversary and we had so many monthly plans to observe and celebrate this achievement, but due to this COVID 19 pandemic, we have had to shift gear and concentrate on new ways to keep patients coming to the hospital. One of these shifts included our Pharmacy delivery service. We recognize the need to ensure that our patients continue to get their meds without leaving their homes. The numbers to call for this service are 602-0949 and 644-2239.
During our Anniversary month in September, we will be doing a few observances to not let this significant period pass by unrecognized.
We will have our outdoor Mass during the week of September 21st to 25th along with our Staff honoring activities.
This year also highlights the 125th Anniversary of the Sisters of Mercy in Guyana and we started a project to pay tribute to these wonderful and supportive ladies of our Mission
We have dedicated and landscaped a“Serenity Garden” in front of the School of Nursing and erected a monument in their honor. This dedication was scheduled for April this year but was canceled, again due to the pandemic, as some of the Sisters could not travel from overseas for that Celebratory week.
The unveiling of the Serenity Garden will now be scheduled at the end of September after the Anniversary Mass.
This year also saw us utilizing a Grant which we received in November 2019 from Vitamin Angels, an organization that supplies vitamins to Children and pregnant mothers and along with Funding from The Sovereign Order of Malta, we were able to give relief to displaced persons and supply our prenatal clinics, Mobile Clinic and other Not for Profit Organizations.
