CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER MESSAGE TO ST JOSEPH MERCY HOSPITAL NURSES ON THE OBSERVANCE OF INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY 2024
The Sisters of Mercy Sponsoring Council, Board of Directors and Executive of the St Joseph Mercy Hospital wish to extend thanks to all the nursing professionals everywhere and more particularly to you our own Mercy Nurses as you celebrate international Nurses Week
This year’s observance is celebrated under the theme-Our Nurses. Our Future. The economic power of care.
Dr Pamela Cipriani, President of the International Council of Nurses in explaining the background to this year’s theme said,“Despite being the backbone of health care, nursing often faces financial constraints and societal undervaluation”.
The Covid 19 pandemic has taught us that global health impacts affect us regardless of our individual status or location. Since then, the climate crisis, international conflicts and financial instability continues to negatively influence nursing outcomes globally.
We at St Joseph Mercy Hospital are cognizant of the impact that nursing makes on the economy of any country particularly in Guyana. In the absence of a healthy workforce, both sustained and increased productivity are negatively affected. The health of a country’s economy is therefore directly tied to the quality of healthcare available and nursing and nurses are integral to that care.
To the extent that resources permit we at St Joseph Mercy Hospital has embraced a programme of training and education for our nurses so that they will be equipped to deliver the sustained quality of service required of the profession. This initiative will continue and expand as opportunity presents.
The provision of quality nursing care will continue to pose many challenges in the future. Our collective mettle will be tested daily however we must continue to be guided by and remain loyal to our objective. That is, “committed to providing quality medical care services to all with a spirit of compassion, commitment and professionalism”.
The Sisters of Mercy Sponsoring Council, Board of Directors and Executive of this hospital are fully in support of you as together we navigate a sustained path to the future. We wish to urge that you recommit to the Mercy Spirit and demonstrate by your actions that you are true leaders in the profession.
A rewarding Nurses Week to all.
