The Board of Directors and Executive of the SJMH wish to extend a special thank you to all the nursing professionals’ everywhere and more particularly to you, our own Mercy Nurses here at SJMH.
This year’s observance is done under the theme-Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A Vision for Future Healthcare.Annette Kennedy, ICN President said, “This global COVID-19 pandemic has shown the world the important role that nurses play in keeping people healthy across the lifespan”.This is a profound statement and at this point we must all pause and reflect on those of our colleagues who lost the battle to the COVID Virus. May their sacrifice and work not be in vain.
While there has been significant disruption to the provision of quality healthcare over the past year, several lessons were learnt that we must acknowledge as a path is forged for the future. Our nurses are working under tremendous pressure yet they continue to be the light in the darkness of despair. This commitment and courage are commendable. Be assured that you have the full acknowledgement and confidence of the clients you serve. They would not have entrusted their care to you had it being otherwise. We at SJMH have a mission to fulfill and shall continue demonstrating that statement. “Committed to providing quality medical care services to all with a spirit of compassion, commitment and professionalism”.
The challenges inherent in providing nursing care at this time will test your mettle. We however urge that you continue to take the lead as you are known to do. Remember that you cannot care for others if you are not enjoying optimum health yourself. One small step in his direction is to get vaccinated against the effects of the virus. Another is to arm yourself with the knowledge of the vaccines available so that you can educate others. You are a leader and your counsel will be sought. Be adequately prepared.
